So, we went to LA for Aunt Thelma's birthday party at the end of February. This woman is incredible! She lives in an assisted living apartment and they have some vacant apartments so we were able to rent one of the apartments for the weekend and were able to spend the entire weekend with her. It was very nice. They have activities all day, every day for the residents. Thelma is the oldest one there. She told me "No one else is even 100". On Friday we did some of her activities with her. There was a sing-a-long with a piano player and about 15 of us (including Thelma, Ron and I) joined in. We sang patriotic songs, a few church hymns and some popular, well-known older songs and a few military songs since one of the leaders is an ex-marine General. It was a total crack-up! Most of them can't hear and couldn't follow along with the words on the printed sheets we were given. Some were singing the verse when we should have been singing the chorus and vice-versa. The piano player was getting very frustrated and kept trying to explain that you sing one verse, then the chorus, then the next verse, then the chorus again, and so on. Most didn't get it so it continued on in this manner for about 12 songs. I had a headache by the end! We went to dinner that night with Thelma's daughter Pat and her husband Richard and it too was nice.
They had a birthday party for her on Saturday and her daughter Pat and family attended. Below is a picture:
That's Thelma in the center, her daughter Pat to her right, Pat's daughter Alissa to Thelma's left.
Back row is Richard (Pat's husband and Mr. Wilhelm on Seinfeld), Me, Ron, a friend of Pat's (can't remember her name) and Larry, Alissa's husband.
Alissa is an acting agent and came across a request for a 100 year old woman to act in an ad for GE (a corporate video) so she recommended Thelma for the job. Thelma auditioned for it a few months ago and they hired her, but not for the 100 year old part because they thought she didn't look old enough, so she got the part of the 96 year old woman. Like I said, she's incredible! Sher

Breast Cancer Awareness Benefit
Hi Guys,
OK, this is my first time blogging so be patient with me. A few weeks ago the President of our company, Matt Morrow sent a few of us in the office an e-mail telling us that his wife (a recent breast cancer survivor, she's only 42) was going to walk in the Avon Walk For Cancer with some of her girlfriends and each had to earn a certain amount of money (I think $3,000). They were going to hold a benefit and it was going to be in a country western dancehall/bar and was going to be sort of a party/benefit with a silent auction on a Saturday night. This was the weekend we were going to California to see Aunt Thelma for her 102nd birthday so we were unable to attend. I really wanted to go! Since I wasn't going to be able to go I donated three stained glass pieces. Sorry for the poor quality of the photo of the scottish rose piece. I had to hold it up and take the picture at the same time. The breast cancer awareness garden stake was donated to Tiffeny (Matt's wife). This is a picture of it in her garden and also a picture of the scottish rose piece.
Love you all (and I love this blog...thanks Abs)

More on the "Wino"
After she drank her first glass of "wine" she said "I am drinking this to fast I won't be able to finish supper". This is the "wine" bottle when she made that statement.
Mom and her "Drinking Problem"
Last night, when I went downstairs to get Dad and I a Strong Bow to drink Mom wanted me to get her a wine cooler. I sat it on the counter for her as I was fixing Dad and my drink. When I looked around, Mom had gotten her a wine glass to pour here "wine" into, then she got a wine bottle stopper to recap her "wine" bottle.

So I'm 28
A beer flight at my favorite German pub to take the edge off of the feeling of finally finishing my project and the looming deadline that succeeds it.
Roller derby extravaganza! This is a flat track as opposed to the incline track that I was expecting, but an experience none the less.
The fruit tiramisu Beth made me. It's my favorite low calorie desert, made best with blueberries, but those weren't available. If you want the recipe let me me know. It's really amazing!
The breakfast that saves lives: Two eggs over easy served over a bed of brown rice and black beans, topped with cheese, pico and sour cream. To make it a well rounded meal I ordered a side of biscuits and gravy and a fruit cup! Don't even think for a second that I didn't have a happy plate, stomach...not so much.

Day Worth Blogging About...Night Not So Sure!
Woke up @ 7:05 (hello Daylight Savings Time), a mere hour and a half late! Got to work @ 8:15 (sorry Jessica!), the roads were slick due to the 4 inches of snow we got in the night! Client #1, we will call her Moron Mary, fed her cat that needs sedation to be groomed..."Don't give him too much of that stuff he throws up"..."We asked you not to feed him b/c of the anesthesia"..."I know, but I have two cats and well he didn't have very much"..."You understand that is one of the reasons he is throwing up don't you"..."I know"..."The food also increases his chances of aspirating while he is 'out'"..."I know, aspir what?"..."Sucking vomited food or fluid into his lungs while he is sedated. That is the main reason we ask you not to feed him after midnight the night before a procedure involving sedation"..."I know. I want him to look like a lion." While this is not the end of the conversation I can't stand to share the rest as it just gets "worser"!
Lunch was nothing to write about...cottage cheese and greek yogurt! UGH!
Moron Mary came back after lunch and demanded to know why her cats face wasn't shaved..."you asked for a 'lion cut'"..."I know"...
Had supper with Joan & Carl. Tacos and warm chocolate cake in milk (This is really the only thing that makes the 'day' worth blogging about!
Came home and while putting wood in stove, the end of a piece came up and bashed me in the face! I am blogging to you all with a swollen, bleeding lip! I am off to take some Motrin and go to bed...and probably cry! HUL

If it's not one thing, it's my mother
Ok, so she did it again! She told on herself. A while ago she told Tam and I that she came out to the livingroom today after getting dressed and asked "Daddy" to hook her bra in the back. He asked if she wanted it hooked in the farthest hooks, she said yes. When he had finished, he said "This doesn't look quite right, do you have this on right?" Mom looked down and realized she had it on backwards and it was a front hooking bra....... What should we do? Deb

Stop putting tomatoes on my sandwich!
Today I woke up at 5:30am, ate some peanut butter toast, picked up my bag that I packed at 1am the night (same morning) before. Went to the gym and made it to work by 8:45am. I sat mouth turned down and eyes glazed at a 10am meeting, worked through lunch and ran around like a crazed chicken missing its head. I may have snapped at a few people, most definitely blatantly ignored a few more, and went ballistic when my Jimmy Johns dinner order was screwed up for the millionth time ( #4, no tomato, add avocado, this is not brain surgery people, I have had the same order every night for the last 2 weeks!). It's now 7pm, I have almost finished my project and am going home at a decent hour (yay) where I will spend some more time on the bloody computer looking for a job that will get me out of hells little known second location 330 N. Wabash Suite 3600.
There is an upside! This weekend I will be celebrating my birthday at the roller derby. Who knows maybe they will be looking for a new roller girl. I'm a fast learner and an even tougher chic!
Day worth blogging about? I don't think so. I hope to one day be as lucky as you mom!
Big Day Ahead
I wasn't going to break the new so soon but since SOMEONE forced my hand I will jump in. Today I had a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios, for breakfast. I have to be at work at 10:00 so I will have to get in the shower about 9:00. I went out and welded the eyes and antani on a beetle I am making. When I get home from work about 1:30 I plan to go the the lumber yard to get some wood for blue bird houses that I have promised to some people.
My big day will come to a screeching halt after I take the best dog in the world on a long walk.
Ha see if you can top that for a day worth blogging about. TT

Ethan signing with Friends University
For as long as they can
remember, Austin Richard and
Ethan Beck have been teammates
on the football field.
Richard and Beck were teammates
in youth football, and
at both Royster Middle School
and Chanute High School.
Now they’ll be teammates
again.
The two Chanute High School
seniors signed with Friends
University on Thursday, where
they’ll play football for the Falcons.
“I think Ethan and I have
been playing football together
since youth flag football,” Richard
said. “We’ll be teammates
again, and I can’t wait.”
“It’s definitely going to be
weird playing without our other
classmates, but having Austin
with me will be nice,” Beck
said. “We’ve played together
probably every year we’ve ever
played football.”
Chanute Coach Don Simmons
attended the signing and
said he feels the pair are making
a good choice.
“I think it’s a great level for
them to play at,” Simmons said.
“I think both can be productive
there. I know they’re excited.
The NAIA level is a good level
of football, so we’re real excited
for them.”
Friends Head Coach Monty
Lewis attended the signing
on Thursday and said he was
pleased to get both Richard and
Beck.
“They’re winners and they
exemplify everything we
want in a recruit,” Lewis said.
“They’re serious about getting
an education and they’re
strong in their family units. And
they’re tremendous football
players. They’ve won a lot of
games in high school. I feel like
we’re getting two of the best
athletes they have here in the
entire school.”
Richard (6-3, 205) was one
of the team’s leaders in tackles
from the linebacker position.
He also had three sacks, with
one safety.
In another CHS twist, former
Blue Comet Kevin Richard will
be playing for Friends, as well.
Kevin Richard spent the last
couple of years at Fort Scott
Community College. Austin
and Kevin are brothers.
“My brother’s going to play
there and he was a senior when
I was a freshman, so we never
got the chance to play together
in high school,” Richard said.
“It will be nice for us to step on
the field together.”
Richard said another factor
in his decision was the fact he
should be able to earn playing
time at Friends.
“I think it’s a good level
for me,” Richard said. “I’m
pumped. Football’s always been
my favorite sport. I couldn’t
give it up just yet.”
Beck (5-8, 148) caught 16
passes for 256 yards as a senior.
On the other side of the ball he
had two interceptions and took
one back for a touchdown.
“What sold me is the great
people there, especially the
coaches,” Beck said. “They
have great facilities. Everything
was great about Friends. I’m
going to be focused on academics
and they have great academics,
too.”
Beck is thinking of majoring
in business and marketing.
Richard is unsure of a major.
Chanute went 8-3 and won
district and bi-district titles
under Coach Simmons.
Coach Lewis said Richard
and Beck are versatile players
who have played in a winning
program.
“The thing that’s exciting
about them is they can both
play several positions,” Lewis
said. “Austin could play defensive
end, outside linebacker or
even tight end. Ethan can play
in the secondary, as a receiver
or a running back. And I think
both young men could fill big
spots on our special teams, too.
We want starter-caliber kids in
those spots. I think the sky’s the
limit for them.”
Friends went 6-4 overall last
season under Lewis.
“That was a step back for us,”
Lewis said, mentioning the program
has gone 33-9 in the last
four years.
“I think we became too enamored
with numbers when looking
at kids. You know, stats,
and how tall, how fast. We’re
going back to looking for kids
with heart who have a love for
the game.”
Located in Wichita, Friends
University is a member of the
Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference

Association of Intercollegiate
Athletics).
